Coming Together

The pieces are coming together for Threshold! It’s a very exciting thing. I got the piece of short fiction back and have been putting together some artwork for the game. The biggest hurdle at this point is laying it all out. I’m a very visual person, so I think once I start seeing it on pages as I want to present it to my fans, I’ll have a much better idea of what art needs to go where. Stay tuned! This game is closer to release than you think!

Threshold Character Art

As I’ve completed the text for Threshold, I have turned my attention to the art for the book. For this project, I’ve chosen the shattered silhouette style as it really fits with the feel I’m going for in this game. You can see the preview of the character archetypes below.

Astonishing!

It turns out I was a lot closer on Threshold than I thought. After posting last night, I started tearing into the working document again and got to a point that I felt was finished. I printed it out and began proof-reading and editing it. I found a couple sections that were missing, but wrote those in while I made the changes I found necessary while going over the text again.

I’m super excited. The text is finished! I just sent an email to the writer I was considering working with before to see if he’s still interested in putting together a short story for the book. I also need to figure out art and get that put together so I can lay out the book.

Woo! It feels like downhill from here!

Partner = None

After posting and asking for applications, reading through writing samples and interviewing two candidates, I had finally picked someone to write for me. While we worked on hashing out our agreement, I kept thinking that it wasn’t the right thing for Threshold. The thought wouldn’t go away. I pushed it away several times, but it stayed right there.

So, I decided that I’d buckle down and finish the game myself. I thanked the candidate I’d chosen and offered him a chance to write some fiction for the game book.

I have made time to make some progress on Threshold in the past couple months, but not as much as I want. The game is still on the horizon and I’m still excited for it. I need to bull through this writing funk and get this project finished.

Looking for a Writing Partner

It has been quite awhile since I’ve manage to work on Threshold, either because of work, the holidays or simply my own lack of desire.

I love this game. The system is incredibly simple and the setting is very fun. Actually writing the book, however, has become a chore. I’ve discovered that while I do like writing, what I enjoy is short stories and not rulebook text. It’s incredibly hard to motivate myself to do any work on the book and I’ve decided to stop torturing myself and the game text.

So, I’m putting a call out there for a partner on the book. The game is designed. The setting is designed and fleshed out. I simply cannot find the time or motivation to get it into presentation form.

I’m not looking to pay a freelancer. I’m looking for someone who is willing to do this for a portion of each sale made. If this sounds like something you are interested in, please contact me with a sample of your writing using this email: devon [at] sharkbonegames [dot] com.

Threshold Update 10/24/11

I’m stealing every moment I can (which truthfully are few and far between) to work on the final draft for Threshold: Tragic Superheroes. I have so many plans for this product and I’m so excited to work on them! This is what I’m working on:

Threshold: Tragic Superheroes in PDF
Threshold: Tragic Superheroes in eBook format
Threshold: Tragic Superheroes presented as an audio book
The first written adventure for Threshold
Creating the art for the PDF

Needless to say, with all these things I’m working on I have no idea when I’ll be getting the book out. I’m hoping to have it all completed sometime around New Years.

Threshold Beta Complete

October 1st has come and gone and I did get some great feedback on Threshold! So, now I’m reworking some of the things that didn’t work so well in the book and getting it ready for publication. It’s going to be a lot of work to finish it up, since I’m doing all the writing, art and layout myself. Check back here for updates, which I’ll post as I have them. Thanks, everyone who participated in the Beta Playtest!

Final Call: Threshold Feedback

This is the final call for playtest feedback for Threshold: Tragic Superheroes! As I’ve said several times, the deadline is Oct. 1, 2011. That is just one short day away. After that, I will be compiling all the feedback I’ve received and going to work to get the final product out there! I’d like to thank everyone who took the time to look at the game. You’ve only helped to make it better!

Threshold Update 9/12/11

The deadline for playtest feedback for Threshold has been announced for awhile, now, and I find myself itching to get to work on finalizing the game. However, I am not letting myself work on it until all the playtest feedback is in, so that I only have to revise it once, and not revise something only to re-revise it, later.

I’ve begun work on the first story module for Threshold, that I’ve decided to include in the back of the Threshold document. My plan was always to publish story modules for Threshold after the game goes out, but I’ve decided to include the first one with the rulebook. This will provide starting point for anyone who doesn’t quite know where to go with their game session as well as beginning the story of Threshold. I’m very excited.

Threshold Playtest Feedback Due Oct. 1

I’m really excited to get Threshold finished and published and I need everyone’s help.

Those of you who are planning on sending in playtest feedback, I’m going to need it by October 1st at the latest. Once I have it, I’m going to go through all of it (if I haven’t already) and go through the entire text of the game. I also need to get the art finished and lay the book out.

So, if you want to get a free PDF copy of the game for yourself and all of your players, get that feedback back to me!
